Frontier Pharmaceutical donates aid to Ecuador
Frontier Pharmaceutical has proudly contributed DioxiCare products to Blanca’s House for their mission to provide critical dental care for the community of Guayaquil, Ecuador. Blanca’s House is an organization of volunteers that brings free medical services, dental services, and healthcare education to communities in Latin America. Blanca’s House is based in Huntington Station, New York, near our office in Melville.
The following excerpt was reported from the mission’s website:
This dental mission is being launched August 4-9, 2015 in response to the lack of access to care and the resulting poor oral health of thousands of Ecuadorians. Free dental care will be provided to indigent children and their families in Guayaquil Ecuador. In addition to free treatment we will educate Ecuadorians about proper dental care and help them lead healthier lifestyles.
It was our pleasure to work with Ann Lalezarian, RDH, MS, and Barbara Greene, RDH, MBA, who headed the mission. 300 hundred patients were treated in 4 days. Three of Frontier’s products: DioxiRinse Mouthwash, DioxiBrite Toothpaste, and Penetrator Periodontal Gel were provided for the mission.
DioxiRinse proved to be a versatile tool. All patients rinsed before and after treatment. The rinse was also used in conjunction with various procedures like extractions, scaling and root planing, and even for cleaning a seriously contaminated denture that had not been removed from the patient's mouth in over 20 years. With the addition of a thorough oral cleaning, including use of DioxiRinse, the patient's mouth was normal when re-evaluated 4 days later. Penetrator Gel was used for treating periodontal pockets. DioxiBrite was given to patients who were in the most need of toothpaste for home hygiene.
The entire staff also gargled and rinsed on a daily basis with DioxiRinse and was happy to report that no one got sick. Travelers to distant places are at high risk for infection.
We commend the volunteers of Blanca’s House for providing healthcare to under-served international communities.
